Here are some recent reviews of L.May Eatery from Tripadvisor.com...

5 Star

Everything about this place was great. We had a large party on Valentines day for a wedding party. The wait staff went above and beyond. They were out of steak sause and she went across the street to get some for my wife. If we ever return to Dubuque this will be our 1st stop.

Always Good!

We go to L.May for special occasions and are never disappointed. Recently, we went for Valentine's Day and were seated in the darling nook in the front window. It is a cozy space, banquette seating, and lots of squishy pillows! Although they were very busy on this holiday, our server was attentive and friendly. The only thing better than the atmosphere and service is the delicious food. I had the Lobster Lasagna, my husband had the Lamb and Pasta. Both delicious. In the warmer months there is outdoor cafe seating in the front. We sat there for our anniversary in early October. It reminded us of our visits to Europe. All in all, a great restaurant in a great little town. PS--Although we usually go to L.May for special occasions, we have gone there for more casual evenings. They have great, inventive pizzas and delicious salads.

Exceeded Expectations

I came to Dubuque, Iowa from the St. Louis area for a wedding. My girlfriend and I are always looking for a great restaurant that uses fresh local ingredients and that has a staff with wine knowledge. We were pleasantly surprised. The owner, Leah sat us and immediately asked if we needed a decanter for the bottle of wine that we had brought. This was a great gesture. Usually a decanter is only offered when you buy a high end wine off the list. The bruschetta was very fresh and balanced. We also had the osso bucco and turkey bolognese. Osso bucco was excellent. Tender pork, creamy polenta. The bolognese was not your typical Italian style. Bigger noodle, cheddar cheese, but still tasty. Overall a very positive experience.

Best in Town

L. May features an eclectic menu, always fresh, and always tasty. My friends agree it's our #1 choice within the 50 mile radius. Waitstaff and other employees are exceptionally patient and gracious to all. Hip urban and tasty describe L. May perfectly.

Outstanding Food and Service

Started with lamb meatballs, juicy and flavorful with feta cheese, great bread made-on-premises; my dining partner had sea bass, which melts in the mouth and I had a filet mignon with parmesan mashed potatoes. All were perfectly prepared and presented. Finished with the orange bread pudding, which is the BEST bread pudding I have ever eaten, anywhere. I was surprised by the quality and freshness of the food. The room was nice and quiet enough, even full, to carry on a private conversation. Prices were reasonable and the food arrived hot and was served seamlessly by the wait staff. Cannot wait to go back.

Wowww!

Tried L. May based on a colleague's reference. I come from a major metropolitan area and I don't think I've ever come across a savory version of french toast. Don't pass on this starter! Chris, my server, was very knowledgeable and navigated me through excellent wine pairings for my main entree. The Casillero del diablo is a fantastic merlot served by the glass! It paired perfectly with the Filet Mignon! Unpretentious, warm and inviting atmosphere. Will be back again and again.

Outstanding Place for Our Group

We chose L.May Eatery for the rehearsal dinner. Having never been there before, we took a chance on a referral. They offered a wide variety of delicious pizzas, a fresh and crisp salad, and an array of adult and soft beverages. The service was outstanding as well. Thank you for a memorable experience. If in Dubuque, I highly recommend this restaurant, and I will definitely return.

We Rave About L.May!

My family and I went to L.May last weekend for my dad's birthday, because it's his favorite restaurant in Dubuque. My sister came in from Ohio and my brother from New York. The two haven't been back to Dubuque for a while so they'd not been to this restaurant that my dad and mom just RAVE about. Well, we were not disappointed! We were immediately greeted with warm smiles by the owners as well as the staff. It was a busy night, so we waited about 20 minutes for a table (wise to make a reservation at this restaurant if you go on the weekend)-- but we didn't mind waiting because EVERYONE in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was hard to find anyone who wasn't smiling and indulging. Once we were to our table, our server came over and explained the variety of wines and the wine feature of the night as well as the dinner feature- she was perfectly attentive. I ordered the Mediterranean Shrimp and Scallops, what a treat! My dad ordered his favorite of course, the Osso Bucco which literally just falls off the bone. The new Menu is FANTASTIC. My brother and sister now see why my parents (and I) rave about L.May! It's a place to go if you want an exciting atmosphere, excellent food, great company, and great service.
